I know that we are playing an online game, that we can use to escape from our real lives and immerse ourselves in another world entirely. Sometimes we get depressed and I have put together a list of resources for you in case you need them either for yourself, a guildie or another loved one
I would like to start out by saying that if you ever suspect that someone you are talking to in game is in danger of hurting themselves or others, please open a ticket and let Blizzard know about it. The folks that make the game are very concerned about the community and it's not about how much money they make, it's that no one wants to see a fellow gamer get hurt or hurt other. Blizzard has the resources to get in touch with the local authorities and will help the person that needs help to get in touch with someone who can help.
For those of you that are still in school, you can seek out the help of the school therapist or social worker to get help. For those of you that have insurance, your heath plan may cover visits to therapists or counselors. In addition in some communities there are Crisis Centers that you can go to (look up on the Internet Crisis Center). If you are having an emergency, go to the nearest hospital, and they will help you.
Here are a few resources that I have found that you can use as well:
- National Alliance on Mental Illness provides support not only for those suffering, but to the family members and loved ones affected as well
- National Suicide Prevention Lifeline - By calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255) you’ll be connected to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area, anytime 24/7.
- Depression Treatment Guide - guide to therapy, medication and lifestyle changes
- National Institute of Mental Health - information on the website as well as a free booklet with information that you can order online or view online
As a member of the WoW Community, I hope that you find this information useful both in an out of game.
Much Love to All of You
